Grim Hammers

Another batch of figures from the Hobbit movies, this time a set of Dwarf Grim Hammers.  These figures were fun to paint though they turned out a bit more polished than the movie versions who are a lot darker metal.

More Misty Mountain Madness

Well managed to get the other 9 goblins done this week and yes they are still ugly buggers.  Very pleased with myself as I am usually rubbish at finish projects.  Next up some dwarfs and then maybe onto the Hobbit Goblin Town boxset!

From the Misty Mountians

Finished my first batch of Goblins from the Hobbit and what an ugly bunch they are too!  I loved these figures ever since I first saw them on the GW website as they are so different from the type of goblins we are used to seeing in fantasy ranges.

They were great fun to paint though I did take a lot of ideas from the excellent Tale of Painters blog.

I have another batch to do and will probably do some tweaking with the hair and sores etc to make them a bit different but overall I am happy with the result.

Display Bases

Finished three more display bases using the plastic ruins that come with one of the LoTR sets Games Workshop used to make.

Aragorn and Gimli

Had a blast painting up these two last week, really enjoyed the two figures.  There is something about the LoTR figures that makes them easy to paint, maybe because they are true to scale and not overblown like most fantasy miniatures.

Defenders of Mirkwood

More Hobbit elves!

My first adventure with a figure cast in finecast and have to say it lives up to its nickname of "failcast".  I found it a truly awful material to work in, I struggled at times to make out the details on the figure so while I do like the pose of the Ranger Captain I am disappointed overall with the sculpt.

Luckily Legolas and Tauriel were cast in metal and plastic respectively and turned out nicely though if I was doing Tauriel again I would custom build a base for her to fit in with the other figures.

Mirkwood Rangers (Part 2)

My second batch of Rangers is finished and very pleased with them I am too!

I asked for some advice on the net for taking photos and armed with a new app for my phone I think I have actually manged to do them justice!

Mirkwood Ranger

I have always love the world of Middle Earth created by Tolkien and the figures from the Hobbit movie are some of the best that GW was produced.  I loved the Mirkwood Rangers as soon as I saw them and finally picked up a box last week.

This the first of them I have painted up and a very nice figure he is too.
